AHA! Well, we have tried gel pads, half pads, and wither pads and nothing works. We didn't figure it out until after our very first show we saw that not only did he have dry spots on his back, but the same spots on his new bright, white saddle pad were still glowing white. We tried several different saddles of all types, widths and brands and all had the same result, even with a dressage saddle. At first we thought the dry spots were pressure points from his saddle being the wrong width for him. I guess this would be a form of bridging. But his shoulders are so big, that when he moves his shoulder blades lift the saddle up off his back, and also creates more pressure under the cantle. Which, after a ride, always results in this.īasically what's happening is that when Finn is standing it looks like his saddle fits perfectly. From this angle it looks relatively normal for a downhill, short backed, stock-type horse, right?įrom this angle you can see Finn's ginormous, bulbous shoulders and how far they stick out past his withers.
